disaster strikes!
I leave home... and; while I'm gone managed.com where I host one of my servers decides that the hard drive I bought I shouldn't have. Even though I ahve the receipt and everything for it!
I have had numerous email conversations with them over the blackberry eventually with Kyle's help sending them the receipt for the hard drive purchase for my box (several times). Each time after the receipt is sent... absolutely nothing happens and the entire /var partition is still gone and managed.com shuts completely up.
I am out of touch of everyone and w/ no internet access (although now w/ my long range wireless card I've managed to hook up into someone elses internet connection).
Jason and Erica went over to my house and plugged in my portable harddrive into my backup server however... the portable drive doesn't work... sad thing is I'm not completely surprised I vaguely remember never beeing able to get the USB working on the portable hard drive only able to get the firewire going. I never knew why but now... this sucks for sure!
In other news, yesterday I went to the Beach, ate a great breakfast, played with Lilly talked with Grandma a lot about things. I feel for Grandma so much; and there is nothing I can do. Grandma has cried so many times as she hurts so badly from losing grandpa.
We ate out a Thai place last night too it was very good, I left a TIP of 7 Saquachuwea gold dollars (SP?). People usually like that kind of thing.
Today I took grandma and we ate at the King Tables, I got a haircut, went to some thrift stores and used book stores as well! Went shopping at Fred Meyers and a another grocery store. Generally it was a good day except I went sooo many instant messages via blackberry.
I finally got online now that its night time w/ my long-range wireless connection. Oh amanda found me on myspace! HI Amanda if you're reading this!! Thanks for being a myspace friend!!

brief stop in portland then on to coos bay
brief stop in portland then on to coos bay
Category: Travel and Places
Left on the airplane from Juneau flew up to Anchorage got on the plane in Anchorage to Portland at 1:00am.
I got into Portland and I decided to go to Powells Books. I bought a all day max ticket and then stopped on the way and had denny's for breakfast. I unfortunately managed to leave my Max ticket at the Restraunt and ended up buying a second Max ticket.
I got lost (as usual) on the way to Powells books ending up going in a completely circle having once again goten north and south mixed up (or was it east and west!) I really don't know!
I managed to pick up some books and now my backpack was overfilled with books! While I was in the airport I ran into Tara said Hi to her; on the way back through portland I'm going to have dinner with her.
In North Bend/Coos Bay I got the last car rental from Enterprise; I got the discount from slickdeals.net. Drove down to Bandon and saw my Grandma. She was really glad to see me and it was very nice to see her as well. I took her to a mexican restraunt for dinner. That evening Mandy and Kevin came by as they are on their way to San Francisco on a road trip and they stopped by along with their dog Lilly.
I went to bed around 9:00-10:00 utterly exhausted having hardly slept at all since 5:30 am on saturday.

various things
various things
I met a kid named Alex, he's in 4th grade was had to do a paper on technology in the community. I was SOOO impressed with him. He reminded me of myself when I was younger. He is interested in wireless stuff, has started programming and everything! He has started running linux too! I gave him an account on my server and if he needs anything I'll help him out. This is fantastic!
Yesterday I was able to do 185 pounds on the bench through multiple reps! That's the best I've been able to do for a while since I started working out again. It really makes me feel good about myself to know that I'm improving.
I have a eve-online tournament tommorrow which I'm hoping to win; I have to get up at 5:30am though! But it'll be worth it.
Flying out tommorrow on the airplane to see my grandma! I am hoping that I can make a difference with her in order to improve her outlook on life. I'm going to be gone all week. I do have my blackberry though which I'm going to try and get ssh running on it before I leave!
Work is very busy I have a lot of things to do and seeing my grandma is really going to kill my productivity for my new job; but I did promise her so...

I have been so busy lately...
I got TWO new friends on myspace WOW! How cool is that, my best friend Erica found me; she's the coolest! And Jennifer from Nevada also found me (her husband Kyle actually was the one who found me) he refuses to setup a myspace account for a good reason as drupal is so much cooler. (and I agree)
Oh btw I have some excellent pictures of the church fire to share but I haven't gotten around to it.
Finally got andvsa upgraded to 100mbit, I had to reconfigure the surplus switch because it had different VLAn's setup and I found a cable with a bad wire on 3-6.
I have SOO much work ahead of me and a lot to do. Also I'm going to be gone all next week in oregon... so I don't know how much I'm going to post, I'm visiting my Grandma. Currently I'm set to fly all over the place except to where I'm trying to go as I'm using 20k miles (I didn't have 40k miles so.... that and I'd try not to use them anyway).. so Tara hopefully will be able to fix it (Thanks Tara! of course she doesn't even know this blog exists but still!)
till later!

wednesday
Yep another cold day! WOW, I didn't put my hat all the way on and I was sooo freezing by the time I go to work.Got some more stuff done. had lunch at the bouy deck w/ Lee. Aaron was going to make it but he called and said the bouy deck was closed and I tried to find Lee to tell him but we showed up and it was actually open!
Didn't have a phone to call Aaron though so I missed him for lunch. there was a reception over at fernando's today for andvsa but I worked on some printing problems then eve said everyone was dressed pretty nice and since I was just wearing my t-shirt and coat and hair was full of static electricity and wouldn't brush down and which didn't look too great I didn't feel comfortable going out there with all of those legislatures and important people. (I'm just the volunteer ya'know!)
Saturday is Big Brothers Big Sisters tubing day!! I called John last week and RSVP'd but I still haven't gotten a response from John whether or not he is in.
It is COLD outside as I once again found out after getting back from bible study.(on a completely unrelated topic I really need to start running longer distances instead of just doing weights, running on the treadmill sucks!!! and it is FREEZING outside!)

first day of work
first day of work
I didn't get much done at work, fooled around w/ my new computer, did some paperwork, did some other stuff (sorry can't tell you about it).
In other news the "big" server went up; had the wrong IP which was fixed; however large amounts of reiserfs corruption took me a long period of time to completely fix all of it... ended up finally rebuilding the entire binary tree of the filesystem. (It's running reiserfs4). I don't know how it got corrupted but... it's working now.
Got my nepenthes sensor up and going at home and I submitted a new unknown virus it came from some gci customer at 206.174.7.168, uploaded a program called mslaugh with a hash of 8676210e6246948201aa014db471de90.
Got 5 more hash's of spoolsvc.exe f1b9c138f731a5cde23bae1989fb3bd0 from 2 other gci customers w/ the addresses of 206.174.14.101 and 206.174.31.237.
should be interesting to see what else I collect.
Everyone must have a nepenthes sensor!!! :)

unemployed
yep, I'm unemployed... until monday.
No more cell phone either! Unfortunately I still haven't processed everything off of my computer at work but I suppose I can still go back into the old office tommorrow.
It's amazing how much *JUNK* one accumulates after working for a while!!!
Not sure if I'm going to be getting another cell phone w/ my new job; but the old one as of friday afternoon no longer goes to me.

room mate moved out
room mate moved out
Yep, John is gone, sorry to see him go but such is life. House is almost completely empty, as he still has some stuff left.
I've heard through the grape vine that my cousin Jessica and her Mom and Dad and Jessica's boyfriend are coming up to Alaska at the end of May beginning of June.
I haven't seen them for a while!
I REALLY need to do my taxes; it sucks because I just can't do a 1040EZ :) as I have deferred loses and crap.. I've been putting it off but I finally got all my paperwork ready.
Watched Lord of War, went to the video store; I was watching tivo from april of last year (Yes I'm slow for watching my shows but... that happens when you have a box that can store 750 hours of video at the highest video setting!)
LVM all the way! :P

I'm going to UAS now!
I'm going to UAS now!
I signed up for a bachelors degree... now they want my high school transcripts ... how do I find those?I'm going to see if I can take the fast-track through college challenging as many courses as possible and buying myself a degree. I feel I know most of the classes inside and out as it is as it's my field; unfortunately if I want to get into the FBI computer crime division I have to have a degree even though I have the experience in doing forensics and investigations as well as a good programming background and a network background. Should be interesting.
I guess I should join the UAS group... we'll see how many classes I can get done without ever going to schoo1!

and the evening
and the evening
So... as if ANYONE is interested in what my boring uneventful life is, here goes the rest of it.
Anyone caught reading this should certainly think: Why am I reading this random completely NORMAL blog when there are tons of more interesting people's blogs out there talking about politics current events and stuff. I guess people have figured it out, I've currently got a total of 0 subscriptions to my blog so my paragraph must mean something to them!
anyway rest of the day goes as follows went to andvsa worked on a couple of computers got home, went to bible study, then got home again, played 1 game of warcraft 3 as Leo then watched invasion, also I fixed the juneauwireless website from spammers by adding a double captcha... should be more difficult to get past.

Wow 11 views on my blog today! (and grandma)
Is that even possible?
Well I'm going down to Oregon this month; my grandma really want to see me. Before grandpa died I said I was going to go down there and I said I would make it in February. Well my grandpa died and so I went down there for a while in January. My grandma said that since I promised to go down there going down in february my trip in January didn't count... so I negotiated out till March.
Well it's March now and I've got a new job and a lot which is going to start going on. I tried to talk to Grandma saying that I'd stay down longer if we put it out till April (or the summer); as I don't have 40k miles in my alaska airlines mileage account I only have enough for a 20k mile trip. Unfortunately I couldn't find any. She told me that I promised to come down in March and am I going to back out of my promise. If I go now it'll cost 3 times as much as if I went in April and this month is really hard because of the job and stuff going on. So I'm going to buy a full priced ticket because of my promise; I just wish my Grandma would be a little more lenient.
It would be a lot easier on me if I could just buy her a ticket up here (which would be fine), but she doesn't take charity and she doesn't fly as far as I know because it is dangerous. After grandpa died she spends most of the time at home by herself. I would like to see if I could get her to move to Portland or someplace where it would be easier for me to see her and help her. But she refuses because of the crime and danger. I just don't know how to help her. I am going to try tough love though... I am not going to go visit her again unless she visits me or we go somewhere else instead of staying at her place. I need for her to explore and experience the world instead of dwelling on how bad she feels.

Yesterday another day in the life of me
Yesterday another day in the life of me
I'm not sure if a BLOG should be a journal of the boring stuff I do every day or it should be earth-shattering revelations done by me. For the moment I'm going to do "boring every-day stuff"... at least for now; believe it or not I do come up with earth-shattering fascinating information quite often. I'm just not sure if I should put it up for the world to see as it may affect people completely. So, yesterday I went by Costco and got new food. As the old food got eaten. New food includes two packs of orange juice; rice bowls; some stuff in tortias, milk, ice cream, pie, philly cheese steak, and probably some other stuff.
I ordered a co-lo from superbservers yesterday as well. So hopefully they'll send me the info soon so I can have the box sent. The new machine is a gentoo dual opteron 265 (4 1.8ghz opterons!), terabyte of diskspace (raid'd w/ a 3ware 9500), 4 gigabytes of ram all in a 1U. Okay now if anyone reads this bog (which I HIGHLY doubt it!!!) they will be convinced I'm a total geek and probably never come back. :P.
till later!

went snowboarding today
I haven't gone in a long time; went with Britney! Unfortunately she managed to hurt herself just a little bit doing crazy stunts so we went home around 1:30-2:00 or so. But it was fun anyway!
Hopefully we can make it up there again!

Haha... Thanks For Being Nice... But There Were No Crazy Stunts Involved, Just Trying To Learn! TSK! And I Can't Move Today! No Pain Killers Are Helping!!!

dell san installation today
Dell came by and installed the extra drive for the SAN, took Van Tu out to Wild Spice with Aaron Genji and Micah.
It's a sunny day!
Stopped by ANDVSA looked at the backup and removed a toolbar "ViewBar" that was causing problems for Brie.

Posting for a new roommate, how does this sound?
Renting room downtown federal flats, $500 a month. Hardwood floors; your choice between upstairs bedroom (large) or bottom floor room. I live in one of the two upstairs bedrooms. Everything included (Garbage, power, heat, internet etc). Internet access is both a 1mbit DSL and a 7mbit cable. Digital cable I don't watch it so if you want the digital receiver it is yours!. Very nice refrigerator and a dual convection oven. I don't cook myself but I'd imagine it is possible! Washing machine and dryer as well.
Garage available if you want to rent it; I don't own a vehicle so....

Aaron!
Yay! Bouy Deck wednesday... probably my favorite day. Had lunch with Aaron and Lee.
Later I went to ANDVSA, I had big trouble today... I had a computer that would join the domain but no matter what I did the logon account would always show up in a different domain thus stopping the user from logging on if the network cable was not connected.
Never could figure it out.
Eve and I had pizza that night and I missed going to Wednesday night bible study :(. Eventually I put everything back the way it was supposed to be and gave up.
