Running from the law! (and the law won)

Several years ago in 1999 in the winter I was working on the project in Nevada with Data Engineering. It was late that night when some people in the office wanted soda. I got into my 1970 white chevelle with Kyle Smith to go to the local convenience store on South Virginia.

Kyle Suggested that I scrape my windows; unfortunately I didn't listen to his advice, I now know it was VERY good advice. I decided since he told me it was across the street to just go after all it was a very short run and I wouldn't be caught driving such a short way... after all the temperature was very very very cold.

So I went.

I got pulled over. I got a careless driving citation with a 300 dollar ticket.

Fastforward several years to the year 2007.

Today is a thursday, except for a boring meeting it is going pretty well. I need to renew my drivers license because my birthday is coming up. Sarah sent me a message on wednesday saying she's going to the DMV today, so I have to be in her office at 11:30.

I get there and we both go out to the DMV.

When my drivers license is renewed they run the drivers license through this national system which states publish if they revoke a person by their social security number.

I had a flag which said, no license available deny all licenses nationwide to Myron Davis.

The DMV wanted me in Nevada.

badly.

I had to call immediately to Nevada to get it straightened out.

Nevada DMV sucks.

really really bad.

I hate it.

eventually after leaving voice mail messages and talking to various people who couldn't help me I got a phonecall back.

I paid my fine in 1999 a couple of days late and I got a $5 late fee attached to it.

The lady on the phone (who seemed quite busy), didn't want to spend the time talking with me in order to get it paid etc... she cleared out the fine and said that it'll update the national system in about 48 hours and I can renew my drivers license.

morale of the story:

computerization sucks, this fine had been sitting at the Reno PD for YEARS in their local system until eventually the State of Nevada computerized and linked the different county offices and published the information to the national grid. What is interesting is I did DMV stuff 5 years ago in Nevada and this never came up.

rest of the day: went climbing with Torsten, Debbie and Sarah (I'm getting better and I had a really good time!).

Then I did dance lessons with Debbie. I am SOO happy; it is really neat to know that I'm getting better at something which I had no desire in doing in the past and it's pretty fun too. I still have a long ways to go but I'm happy Debbie asked me to go because it is expanding my horizons!.

So concludes this thursday.

Myron - you wreckless driver you!
Somehow, wreckless and you don't really seem to go together.
Glad you got it straightened out.

Amanda

Good for you for dealing with the DMV so rationally!

And good for you for keeping up with the dance lessons! I'm sure you and Debbie are uber fantastic dancers. :)
