I'm getting better with my injury

I went with Debbie and Sarah to the rock climbing gym after work today and I did two runs, a 5.6 and most of a 5.7. Then I started to feel my left arm with a bit of a strain.

This isn't much and it is very disappointing to be at this level but... it is exciting how far I have come on the road to recovery.

After that I went to my second swing dance lesson with Debbie. I am learning stuff, and I think we had a lot of fun. After that I went over to the office with Torsten to look at a work project.

I don't feel like I've been accomplishing much lately though...

But yes swing dancing IS fun!

Glad to hear you're able to start to do a bit more! Don't worry, in time, you'll feel better and you'll be rockin' those 5'10s!! :)

What do 5.6 and 5.7 mean in rock climbing? Please enlighten us laymen.

It's a method of measuring how hard a particular rock climbing route is. The numbering system is subjective but generally the higher than number the harder the route.

My skill level is climbing 5.10's (normally), however a route which is labeled a 5.10 in Juneau if you went to the Anchorage climbing gym would be a ~5.12 because they label their climbing routes easier.

I really enjoy rock climbing, I think it is because it is different and you get to you can always see yourself improving. It is a good workout too and the atmosphere is very nice.

I imagine the atmosphere would be pretty nice since you're up so high (bah dump bump).

Teriana = huge nerd.

I've been working up the courage to go rock climbing. My roommate thinks I'm nuts for being so intimidated. After watching the Banff film festival though, I am really pushing myself to give it a shot.

If you need any encouragement you can always go with me, I'll probably be going on Tuesday then again on Thursday.

So if you want to go let me know.

I may take you up on that offer one of these days, but I'm still in the process of building up that courage. My roommate is right about me being silly, but I really hate to make a fool of myself, so I like to have a decent amount of confidence in myself before attempting anything.

Is that your only fear? Making a fool out of yourself?

1. In order to not make a fool out of yourself you need to identify all of the items which could cause you to make a fool out of yourself and not do them.

2. Having someone who knows what is going on greatly decreases the likely hood of that happening because that person can do a knowledge transfer of little things you should know.

3. Decrease exposure. If you know you are going to make a fool of yourself and you do not want people to know, first make sure that there are less people around so you exposure is less.

4. Bring someone along that is a greater fool thereby to deflect any foolness that may be about. (I can't help you in this regard sorry as I refuse to be that greater fool).

5. Preknowledge of what is going to happen is good. I.E. the cost it'll run about 11-14 bucks for a harness and shoes plus a day pass. So going in and saying "I need a day-pass and shoes+harness" shows that you know something already.

6. Having someone that knows what is going on also decreases the likelihood of this happening (ME!).

7. This number is not apart of the list, I just wanted to type in another number because I'm on a roll in this list creating. These blog comments are probably spamming sulie's inbox by now... but she will vouch for me that I'm a good person for a first time climber to go with.

8. Everyone goes for the first time, so everyone understands.

9. Wee now I'm on number 9... okay I should probably stop now being I go into double-digit numbers.
